Hawaiʻi Site Signals Observatory
A field notebook for looking at the web the way a customer does: from a phone, across a real connection, with a real task in mind.
method before score

Why it exists
Visibility is not the same as usefulness.
A business site can be technically present and still make a customer work too hard. This observatory tracks the signals that shape first impressions and repeat use: performance, mobile behavior, HTTPS, accessibility, detectable technologies, and what changes between editions.
V1 establishes the method and a deliberately cautious pilot framework. It does not rank named businesses, issue security certifications, or turn one synthetic test into a universal score.
Pilot board
What the first edition records.
“To be sampled” is an honest status, not a missing column.

The six lenses
Signals with a paper trail.
Separate real-user metrics from one-off lab checks.
Check the primary task, layout, and touch behavior.
Record transport protection without calling it a security audit.
Combine automated clues with human review and WCAG context.
Report only detectable, defensible platform signals.
Keep dated observations side by side so evolution is visible.
Method & evidence
Every observation should be reproducible.
Read the full method, sources, and evidence boundary before using an observatory record in a decision. If you represent a business and see an error, contact the desk with the public URL and the relevant date.
